I've just finished listened to Kirsty MacColl's anthology 'From Croydon to Cuba', and there's really not a weak track amongst the 65. So I'm wondering... how is it possible that an artist of such breathtaking versatility, lyrical wit and sheer pop genius could have remained so underrated throughout a 20 year career?

I can't believe it's 20 years ago today since the singer Kirsty MacColl was killed during a family holiday. Was reminded of her just now because of 'A Fairytale Of New York' by The Pouges. 7
Today is the ten year anniversary of Kirsty MacColl's tragic and untimely death. Strange but true. On 18 December 2000 I was having my tonsils out and I was so petrified of needles that I ended up freaking out. My mate who had come in with me had Kirsty McColl's Tropical Brainstorm on mini disc and in an attempt to calm me down he put the headphones on me, and it worked (with the addition of a nurse from paediatrics).

I was a bit disappointed at Sarah Kennedy on Radio 2 this morning (21 /12). She played 'Fairytale' which cheers me and saddens me, interupted it part of the way through, then completely forgot to mention Kirsty!
