However, in the process, some conservative UCC churches left the conference in protest. In 2006 the church joined in partnership with BBH Design [1] (now Ewing Cole) [2] to buy and retrofit an existing building adjacent to Umstead Park; and in 2009 the Brownleigh Drive building was the first church in the southeast to be LEED Gold Certified.
