It's reported that they grow really fast in a set up like that. One guy has an actual in-ground pond, others set up the "kiddie pool" and stock it over the summer.
A frontosa is best in a 72" species tank or mixed with certain calm cichlids like calvus. Some people raise a juvenile in a smaller tank and then upgrade, but at 6 inches, he is already at the max for a 48" tank on day one. The mbuna will chomp on his streamers. You have an aggressive and potentially troublesome mix just with your existing fish.

Just got back from a lfs that had a nice selection of africans and was told they always put salt in their tanks. At present I do not add salt and am wondering if I should start. The main rational I have heard for adding salt is it stimulates the slim coat making the fish more resistant to illness. they enjoy a little.
