To help bring this cosplay guide to life, we enlisted the support of many people across our Franchise, Content, and Consumer Products teams. From finding old builds of Halo 3: ODST, to pulling renders of Rookie's armor, to assembling them inside the guide, this wouldn't have been possible without the hard work of many talented individuals.
Based on what we know of the ODST armor Halo 3 and on, the Halo 2 ODST are wearing an older variant of the armor. The modern ODST helmet is an offshoot of Project Mjolnir. The Halo 2 variant is presumably from before the Project Mjolnir variant. Because its Halo 3 and that's what their armor evolved into on the 360.
Halo 3 seems to suggest that ODSTs with red markings are squad leaders of some sort while white markings are that of a standard ODST. However, all of that is somewhat predicated on assumptions. I know in Halo 3 the ODST's with red on the shoulders was usually supposed to act as the squad leader like the sergeant.
ODST's are some of the UNSC's finest and have specialized training to tackle any operation. Their armor is very advanced and provides the user with not only protection but also comfort and information. It consists of mainly the Helmet, VISR, Body Suit, Armor, and Rucksack. Helmet: The helmet is made of titanium and is coated with a material ...
Halo 3 and Reach ODSTs are tied for best. Both are great but Halo 3 ODST is just so iconic. Both look so much better than Rakshasa too, I'd like a Halo 3 ODST core at some point. I'd imagine by the time of Halo infinite, it'd be pretty feasible to develop a more advanced ODST armor with a shield generator for a fraction of the cost of Mjolnir.
Agryna's helmet has Dinh's helmet vibes though, too, which is pretty interesting. I picture I like an evolutionary tree, lol. ODST splits into Helljumper, then to Firefall. ODST splits into Nightfall. ODST splits into Dinh's helmet which splits into Agryna's helmet. ODST, in my opinion, also splits into Gen 2 Recruit, which splits into Cavallino.
This is a really interesting progression actually, Buck's Halo 5 armour looks really great IMO. It's got that familiar ODST bulkiness, but also has the Mjolnir elements present, solid design work if you ask me. The design change from Halo 2 to ODST was also interesting. I always found it a little odd that Bungie bulked them up so much.
The armoury description from Halo Reach reads as: Many technologies initially developed for MJOLNIR have gained widespread adoption. So the helmet was originally designed to be a MJOLNIR helmet, was presumably tested by Spartan-II and/or IIIs and found to be suitable for mass-production for the ODST troopers. Reply.
Odst armor was like an armored space suit, mjolnir however is more like a powered exoskeleton with tank plating much more powerful. Only Spartans can wear mjolnir because it would kill anyone else. Buck was an odst so wore that armor until he became a spartan. His armor does have some odst traits but is still very much mjolnir gen 2.
The "wetsuit" ODST is literally the only bad design in H2:A (H3:ODST are perfect). Doesn't make sense why they would have less armor than the marines. Halo 2 ODSTs are best ODSTs. However the Anniversary re-design might have strayed too far from the original.
