Mosquito Lake State Park is a 6,601.13-acre (2,671.38 ha) [1] Ohio state park in Bazetta and Mecca Townships in Trumbull County, Ohio. The park surrounds the southern half of Mosquito Creek Lake . The United States Army Corps of Engineers leases the lake and most of the surrounding land to the Ohio Department of Natural Resources .
Mosquito Creek Lake is a man-made reservoir. It is the second-largest inland lake in Ohio. [2][5] Depth averages 8 to 15 feet (2.4 to 4.6 m) (depending on season), but the southern end towards the dam averages 20 to 25 feet (6.1 to 7.6 m). The northern end is considerably more shallow, with depths averaging only 4 to 10 feet (1.2 to 3.0 m). [2]
Crystal Lake was historically known as Skenker's Pond and later as Mosquito Pond. In 1919, the city of Manchester built a public bathing area at the north end of the pond. The main entrance area consisted of a bathhouse and picnic grounds near the beach. The lake was the site of city-sponsored swim meets for children in the 1920s.
Mosquito Lake is located in northern Haines Borough at (59.427723, -136.163435 It is bordered to the south by the Klehini River, to the west by the Canada–United States border from the Pleasant Camp, British Columbia border crossing north to Rozaunt Creek, to the north by Rozaunt Creek, Nataga Creek, and the Kelsall River, and to the east by the Chilkat River.
The Indian River Lagoon is North America's most diverse estuary, with more than 2100 species of plants and 2200 animals. The diversity is the result of being located near a climate boundary, 5 miles (8.0 km) from the Gulf Stream. Migratory ocean fish swimming nearby, were swept into the lagoon.
