B. S. Abdur Rahman was born in Kilakarai, Tamil Nadu, India, in a middle-class Marakkar family, the son of Bhukari Aalim. His father was a prominent Pearl Trader in South Asia. He completed his Secondary School Level at Schwartz School, Ramanathapuram & Hameedia High School, Kilakarai. He had four sons and two daughters.
Al Ghurair has chaired the Al Ghurair board since 2008, [3] and since 2003 has been a board member of Abdul Rahman Saif Al Ghurair Investments and Mashreq Bank, [4] the oldest privately held bank in the Emirates. He has been a member of the Dubai Economic Council since 2003. [5]
