The 6mm BR / 6.2x39mm is a centerfire cartridge created for benchrest shooting. The cartridge is also known as the 6mm Bench Rest or simply 6 BR, and has also developed a following among varmint hunters because of its efficiency. [5] There are two basic variants of very similar dimensions, known as the 6mm BR Remington and the 6mm Norma BR.
The cartridge is a necked-up version of the .22 PPC which is in turn based on a .220 Russian (5.6×39mm). [5] The standard bullet diameter for 6 mm caliber cartridges is .243 inches (6.2 mm), the same diameter used in the .243 Winchester and 6mm Remington cartridges.
The 6mm BR to the left and 6mm Dasher in the middle are common benchrest cartridges, here compared to a .308 Winchester cartridge to the right. Only the most consistent and efficient cartridges can provide the necessary accuracy for benchrest shooting. Initially, many chamberings were tried, with the .219 Donaldson Wasp probably being the most ...
The 6XC is a 1000-yard cartridge, comparable to benchrest calibers such as 6x47mm Swiss Match, 6.5×47mm Lapua and 6 mm/22-250; it fits into cartridge class that exceeds the velocities of benchrest calibers such as 6mm BR Remington, 6mm BRX and 6mm Dasher. David Tubb has claimed several wins with the 6XC in NRA High Power National Championships ...

The 7mm BR is based on previous Remington benchrest cartridges 6mm BR Remington and the .22 BR Remington cartridges. These cartridges in turn trace their origin to .308 Winchester via the .308×1.5-inch Barnes cartridge. The 7mm BR was designed by merely necking up the pre-existing 6mm BR Remington to accept a .28 caliber (7 mm) bullet. The ...
SMc cartridges were developed in an attempt to produce an efficient cartridge combining low recoil, low heat, and high velocity. [4] The 5 mm/35 SMc has produced velocities in excess of 4,800 ft/s (1,500 m/s) shooting a 30-grain (1.9 g) molybdenum disulfide-coated Berger bullet from a 28-inch (71 cm) Pac-Nor barrel, far higher than its commercial counterpart the .204 Ruger.
There are at least 8 wildcats that are made from the small primer .308 x 1.5" brass, including some very successful benchrest rounds, including the Benchrest Remington family of cartridges, .22 BR, 6mm BR, 6.5mm BR, 7mm BR, .30 BR. Another example is the .220 Russian, based on the 7.62×39mm.
