The Memphis International Raceway (more commonly known as MIR) was founded in 1986 by Ed Gatlin, who along with a group of investors, bought a 400-acre tract of land within the northeastern section of Shelby County, and built a drag strip with an adjacent road course, including a dirt track and a go-kart track. Built by Earl C. Nolan for $30,000, [5] the strip operated under the name of the "Gulf Coast Drag Strip" from 1957-1964. [6] On May 8, 1960 an incident took place with a dragster crashing in to the fence toward Hwy 67 caused the ownership to change hands, with events being canceled in 1962.

The road course at Palm Beach International Raceway was a 2-mile, 10-turn circuit constructed of hot-mix asphalt and set on an aggregate base. It was 40 ft (12 m) wide with a 1/3-mile section measuring 80 ft (24 m).
Hurst Hemi Under Glass is the name given to a series of exhibition drag racing cars campaigned by Hurst Performance between 1965 and 1970 across North America and ended with the '68 model year. Each wheelstander was based on the current Plymouth Barracuda for the corresponding model year.
Later that year a concrete drift track was completed north of the drag strip. In 2020, the name of the track was changed to Interstate Raceway as an homage to the historical name while recognizing that it hosts multiple motorsports. [5]
