The town hall and the municipal offices at the White House remained the local seat of government after the old council was reformed in 1974 to become Tamworth Borough Council. [ 12 ] [ 13 ] In 1980 the council sold the White House and bought Burlington House in Lichfield Street, a tower block which had been built in 1960. [ 14 ]

Tamworth and District Indoor Bowling Club officially founded and opened in 1990. A fire destroyed the Club just after it was originally built delaying its opening by about 12 months. This is the only indoor bowling club in Staffordshire and with over 350 members it is actively involved at Club, County and National levels of competition.
