The building is East of the Mississippi River just south of Interstate 40. The building's raised exhibition space spans over North Front Street.
Anderson Downtown Historic District in Anderson, South Carolina, originally built in the late 19th century, is a historic district that was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1979. [1] [2] [3] The district was increased in 1987 to include a hotel building at 402 N. Main Street, and again in 2018. [1]

Many great points of historical interest in Memphis reside in this area. One is the National Civil Rights Museum. The others include the Blues Hall of Fame and the historic restaurant the Arcade, located on the south corner of South Main and G.E. Patterson. It is the oldest coffee shop and one of the oldest family owned restaurants in Memphis.

The hotel was sold to the Alsonett Hotel Group in 1953. [3] Deeply in debt by the early 1960s, it went bankrupt in 1965 and was sold in a foreclosure auction to Sheraton Hotels, becoming the Sheraton-Peabody Hotel. [5] As downtown Memphis decayed in the early 1970s, the hotel suffered financially, and the Sheraton-Peabody closed in December 1973.
