    community.cartalk.com/t/adhesive-for-attaching-plastic...

My 2007 Civic has been leaking water when it rains heavily. I tracked it down to the adhesive that attaches the plastic sheeting to the inside of the door panel. There were places where it had deteriorated or wasn’t installed properly, allowing the water to leak out of the bottom of that plastic and onto my carpet. Does anyone know what type of product to use to reattach this plastic? It ...

Clean off ALL the rust, epoxy won’t bond to rust. You can add a couple of sheetmetal screws to hold it in place until the epoxy dries, remove the screws and fill with more epoxy. Sand smooth, coat with a little bondo, sand, prime, paint. The repair is not for structural things but it will bond metal to metal.

Apply glue into each drilled hole and the face of each section, insert the pin, align the handle and hold the 2 sections together until they stay. Leave alone for about 24 hours so the glue really sets hard before use. Remember, this glue needs fresh air ventilation, so work safely. ***Caution, this glue is flammable.

What I would like to do is bond the Rust Bulleted panel in place. I know 3M makes a good panel adhesive - but the instructions say to clean the parts to bare metal. I would like to avoid that. Instead, I am considering using JB weld to bond the parts in place. Another thought is to use an industrial urethane adhesive like PL Advanced.

bing July 25, 2013, 11:49pm 3. Yes try the 3M heavy duty spray adhesive or whatever its called. Depending on the location, etc. it might work. But the best way is to replace the fabric. Take the panel off and take it to an automotive trim shop and they will glue/staple new material.

Looks good!, the only thing I am doing different is instead of using cardboard in between the roof panels, is to cut metal shims and glue them in with automotive panel adhesive. I used cardboard on my F150 and it compressed way too much and the roof tends to dent and leak when you tighten the sunroof rings.
