Palace Hotel, also known as the Eldredge Block, Excelsior Steam Laundry, Baltimore Hotel, Gardner Hotel, and Massey Hotel, is a historic hotel building located at Springfield, Greene County, Missouri. It was built about 1892, and is a two-story, Italianate influenced brick commercial building.
It encompasses 455 buildings, 8 structures, and 7 objects in a predominantly residential section of Springfield. It developed between about 1871 and 1952, and includes representative examples of Late Victorian , Colonial Revival , and Bungalow / American Craftsman architecture, including the separately listed Bentley House and Stone Chapel .
The majority of the district's buildings were constructed during Springfield's population boom in the 1860s and its subsequent growth in the latter half of the 19th century. These buildings included hotels, drug stores, groceries, clothing stores, and dry goods stores; some of the stores built in this period are still in operation.
