All of the other counties were created later from these two original counties. Florida became the 27th U.S. state in 1845, and its last county was created in 1925 with the formation of Gilchrist County from a segment of Alachua County. [1] Florida's counties are subdivisions of the state government.
Even after the Georgia Supreme Court struck down the Atlanta ordinance, the city continued to use their racially based residential zoning maps. Other municipalities tested the limits of Buchanan; Florida, Apopka and West Palm Beach drafted race-based residential zoning ordinances.
Clear Creek Township was formed out of the north half of Milton Township on 15 October 1818, and was originally six miles square. Upon the formation of Ashland County in 1846, Clear Creek was again divided, four columns of sections on the east being included in Ashland County, the other two columns remaining in Richland.
Hanover Township began as a part of Richland County in 1806. Hanover Township was organized in 1818. [4] It was separated to become a part of Ashland County upon its formation in 1846. Statewide, other Hanover Townships are located in Butler, Columbiana, and Licking counties.
Ashland County has an expansive slate of candidates who have filed for offices and positions and a list of local questions and issues on the Nov. 7 ballot. John Good filed for municipal court judge.
Green Township began as a part of Richland County in 1806. The name first appears in maps and records in the 1820s following settlement of the township about 1818. [4] It was separated to become a part of Ashland County upon its formation in 1846. It is one of sixteen Green Townships statewide. [5]
