AM broadcasting is radio broadcasting using amplitude modulation (AM) transmissions. It was the first method developed for making audio radio transmissions, and is still used worldwide, primarily for medium wave (also known as "AM band") transmissions, but also on the longwave and shortwave radio bands.
Tuning dial on 1946 Dynatron Merlin T.69 console radio receiver, showing LW wavelengths between 800 and 2000 metres (375–150 kHz). In radio, longwave, long wave or long-wave, [1] and commonly abbreviated LW, [2] refers to parts of the radio spectrum with wavelengths longer than what was originally called the medium-wave broadcasting band.
AM radio (medium wave) 525–1606.5 kHz, 525–1705 kHz in N. America, Australia and the Philippines. amplitude modulation (AM) medium frequency (MF) Usually speech and news, where a lower bandwidth will suffice; long range at night due to the ionosphere increasing in altitude Shortwave: Multiple; see Shortwave bands

The following is a list of radio stations in the United States that are authorized to run 50 kW (50,000 watts) of power. This is the highest power authorized to any AM station in the United States. Power Legend: U=unlimited time, D=daytime power, N=nighttime power, CH= critical hours power.
Amplitude modulation (AM) is a modulation technique used in electronic communication, most commonly for transmitting messages with a radio wave.In amplitude modulation, the amplitude (signal strength) of the wave is varied in proportion to that of the message signal, such as an audio signal.
At the lower end of the spectrum, a portable radio with a larger-than-normal internal ferrite core antenna designed for long-distance AM radio reception may be used, such as the discontinued GE Superadio, CC Radio, or the Panasonic RF-2200. The Sony ICF-SW7600G and the newer GR model are also excellent for budget minded MW dxing.
Typical mast radiator of a commercial medium wave AM broadcasting station, Chapel Hill, North Carolina, U.S. Medium wave (MW) is a part of the medium frequency (MF) radio band used mainly for AM radio broadcasting. The spectrum provides about 120 channels with more limited sound quality than FM stations on the FM broadcast band. During the ...
