The Hit List is a British music game show that puts three pairs of contestants against each other to test their knowledge of music, which began airing on Saturday nights on BBC One on 25 May 2019. The show is hosted by husband and wife Marvin and Rochelle Humes , and it is their first standalone TV show as a couple.
In the final round of the game, two contestants compete. The contestant who had the highest individual score at the end of the fourth round is given a list of two songs to choose from; the other contestant is responsible for singing the first lines.
Up to 7 songs are performed in a similar manner to the first round, but the contestant knows nothing about the song, (artist, title, year) and thus must use the lyrics in order to win the big money. For each song lyric that is sung correctly, the player wins $5,000. If the player gets five right, then they win $50,000.
CBS picked up the television series in the summer of 1953 and carried it through 1959. A revival in 1974 was much more successful. Airing weekly, the 1974 syndicated offering used a new show format and, beginning in 1976, offered a top prize of $100,000 to a lucky champion (after which the show became known as The $100,000 Name That Tune).
A team can accumulate up to $76,000 ($126,000 in season 1; $124,000 in season 2; $102,000 in season 3) during the main game. Three contestants would listen to a tune and the first player to buzz in and name the tune scored 10 points and answered a 10-point follow-up question. The two top scoring players at the end of this round played Bidding For Notes and the first player to score three tunes won a special prize and could win up to three more prizes.
