Westfarms is a shopping mall on the West Hartford–Farmington town line in the U.S. state of Connecticut. It was opened in 1974, expanded in 1982 and 1995–1997, and remodeled in 2008–2009. With 1,267,000 square feet (117,700 m 2) of gross leasable area, Westfarms is the third-largest mall in Connecticut.
The mall contained a number of unique and national specialty shops such as a Hartford Whalers Team Store, Al Franklin's Musical World, B. Dalton Bookseller, Ann Taylor and Koenig Art Emporium. A third level contained about 65,000 square feet (6,000 m 2 ) of office space, overlooking both the mall interior and the adjacent streets.
The area, which was named for tobacco farmer Joseph Bishop, who lived in the area, became a business center after 1797 because of the busy Talcott Mountain Turnpike (now U.S. Route 44). A tavern also became the location of West Hartford's first post office here in 1820. [2] [3]
