League of Legends (LoL), commonly referred to as League, is a 2009 multiplayer online battle arena video game developed and published by Riot Games. Inspired by Defense of the Ancients , a custom map for Warcraft III , Riot's founders sought to develop a stand-alone game in the same genre.
Set in Riot's League of Legends universe, it primarily focuses on sisters Violet / "Vi" and Powder / Jinx. The series was announced at the League of Legends tenth anniversary celebration in 2019, and its first season was released between November 6 and 20, 2021. A second and final season was released between November 9 and 23, 2024.
