According to the United States Census Bureau, the census-designated place (CDP) of Laughlin (which may not coincide exactly with the town boundaries) has a total area of 89.3 square miles (231 km 2), of which 88.0 square miles (228 km 2) is land and 1.4 square miles (3.6 km 2) is water.
Grapevine Canyon is located in the Bridge Canyon Wilderness Area [1] and the Spirit Mountain Wilderness within Lake Mead National Recreation Area. [2] The canyon contains the Grapevine Canyon Petroglyphs and is accessible from Nevada State Route 163 which leads to Lower Grapevine Canyon Road.

The Fort Mohave Land Act of 1960 saw the transfer of 15,000 acres (6,100 ha) of federal land in the Laughlin Big Bend area to the Colorado River Commission of Nevada. The commission transferred 2,100 acres (850 ha) to the Nevada Division of State Parks in 1991, which resulted in establishment of Big Bend of the Colorado State Recreation Area.
