Laughlin (/ ˈ l ɔː f. l ɪ n /) is an unincorporated community in Clark County, Nevada, United States. [2] Laughlin lies 90 miles (140 km) south of Las Vegas , in the far southern tip of Nevada. As a resort town , it is known for its gaming and water recreation.
The Grapevine Canyon Petroglyphs are located in Grapevine Canyon on Spirit Mountain near Laughlin, Nevada, and are listed on the United States National Register of Historic Places. [1] The area is also known as Christmas Tree Pass . [ 2 ]

The Fort Mohave Land Act of 1960 saw the transfer of 15,000 acres (6,100 ha) of federal land in the Laughlin Big Bend area to the Colorado River Commission of Nevada. The commission transferred 2,100 acres (850 ha) to the Nevada Division of State Parks in 1991, which resulted in establishment of Big Bend of the Colorado State Recreation Area.
Spirit Mountain Wilderness Area is a 33,518-acre (13,564 ha) wilderness area located in the Newberry Mountains in Clark County, Nevada, 10 miles (16 km) northwest of Laughlin. [2] Spirit Mountain lies within the area. [3] [4] It is managed by the Bureau of Land Management and the National Park Service.
It is listed on the United States National Register of Historic Places as a sacred place to Native American tribes in Southern Nevada. [11] Spirit Mountain is the highest point in the Spirit Mountain Wilderness [ 2 ] [ 12 ] and is the highest point in the Newberry Mountains with the summit peak at 5,639 feet (1,719 m).
Two species, desert ironwood [2] and the lesser long-nosed bat, have geographic ranges identical to the Sonoran Desert, and are indicator species of the Sonoran Desert region. The spring flowering of ironwood, and the bat species migration arrivals also become indicators of annual or multi-year climate trends for regions of the Sonoran Desert.
