Alverthorpe civil parish was formed on 31 December 1894 from part of Alverthorpe with Thornes in Wakefield Rural District. On 1 April 1916 the parish was renamed Kirkhamgate. In 1931 the parish had a population of 1,320. [2] On 1 April 1937 the parish was abolished and merged with Stanley. [3] [4]
The Rhubarb Triangle is a 9-square-mile (23 km 2) area of West Yorkshire, England between Wakefield, Morley, and Rothwell famous for producing early forced rhubarb. It includes Kirkhamgate, East Ardsley, Stanley, Lofthouse and Carlton. [1] The Rhubarb Triangle was originally much bigger, covering an area between Leeds, Bradford and Wakefield. [2]

Stanley was an Urban District in the West Riding of Yorkshire before 1974, being made up the four electoral wards of Lake Lock, Outwood, Stanley and Wrenthorpe.
