Numbers works in a fashion somewhat different from traditional spreadsheets like Microsoft Excel or Lotus 1-2-3.In the traditional model, the table is the first-class citizen of the system, acting as both the primary interface for work and as the container for other types of media like charts or digital images.
The main concepts are those of a grid of cells, called a sheet, with either raw data, called values, or formulas in the cells. Formulas say how to mechanically compute new values from existing values. Values are general numbers, but can also be pure text, dates, months, etc. Extensions of these concepts include logical spreadsheets.
The per capita data for many countries may be slightly inaccurate as population data may not be for the same year as the consumption data. Population data were obtained mainly from the IMF [3] in 2021 with some exceptions, in which case they were obtained from the Wikipedia pages for the corresponding countries/territories.
A common proxy for measuring consumption is through GDP per capita or GNI per capita. While GDP per capita measures production, it is often assumed that consumption increases when production increases. GDP per capita has been rising steadily over the last few centuries and is driving up human impact in the I=PAT equation.
The data are given in kilograms of oil equivalent per year, and gigajoules per year, and in watts, as average equivalent power. Notes on conversions. 1 kg of oil equivalent (kgoe) = 11.63 kWh or 1 kWh = 0.08598 kgoe [2] 1000 kgoe = 42 GJ; 1 GJ/a = 31.7 W average; 1 W average = 8.76 kWh per year (365 × 24 Wh per year)
