It is noted on the Tennessee Historical Marker in Greene County that in 1771 Jacob Brown came to the Nolichucky River and set up tents on the northern bank. From this location he conducted trade with the Cherokee. [1] In 1772 he leased a tract of ground on the Nolichucky from the Cherokee. The consideration was said to be a horse load of goods. [2]
