The dedication ceremony of the monument took place on Thursday 16 May 1901 and was an occasion of immense civic pride for the village of Foxdale. [3] [1] The ceremony was performed by James Mackee, Chairman of the Isle of Man Mining Company, [3] accompanied by Captain William Kitto with numerous other dignitaries and the Foxdale Mines Band. Now it is sparsely distributed over the parish: there are four small villages, Dalby near the coast on the west side of Dalby Mountain, Foxdale, a former mining village, Patrick in the north, and Glen Maye, near the coast and home to the glen of the same name. Connects Castletown in the south with Ramsey in the north. The A3 passes through Foxdale, St John's, Kirk Michael and Sulby. Between Ballacraine and Ramsey, the road forms part of the Snaefell Mountain Course over which the Isle of Man TT races are run each year.
