Lepidochrysops glauca, the silvery blue, is a butterfly of the family Lycaenidae. It is found from the African tropics to South Africa. The wingspan is 35–40 mm for males and 38–48 mm for females. Adults are on the wing from September to December and from January to April. There are two generations per year. [2]
G. lygdamus is found over much of the western United States and most of Canada extending north excepting most of Nunavut and the high Arctic islands. Wingspan is from 18 to 28 mm. [2] [3] It occurs in a variety of habitats including alpine meadows, shale barrens, dunes, and wooded areas. [4]

Male upperside: purple with a frosted silvery-blue sheen very much as in N. macrophthalma.Forewing: a slender black anteciliary line. Hindwing: costal and dorsal margins somewhat broadly dull brown, an anteciliary black line as on the forewing; the subterminal black spots in interspaces 1 and 2 of the underside apparent in most specimens by transparency.
The Palos Verdes blue butterfly has a wingspan of only 25–30 mm (0.98–1.18 in). The male has a bright silvery-blue dorsal wing outlined in a narrow line of black, while the female's dorsal wing is a more brownish-gray colour. Both males and females have gray ventral wings with dark spots surrounded by white rings. [5]

Male. Upperside black, with the basal area smalt-blue or silvery-blue, otherwise the colour of the wings is blue with very broad black borders covering all but the basal, discoidal and sub-median areas. Cilia and tails also black. Underside, dark vinous-brown.
