Dawn Settlement was designed to be a community for black refugees, where children and adults could receive an education and develop skills so that they could prosper.
Caesar died in 1852, aged 115, according to the inscription on his marble tombstone, in the state of New York. Currently, no contemporary evidence that can verify his age has been found.
