Casey Jones is an American Western television series syndicated during the 1957–58 television season. It was based upon the life of late 19th-century engineer Casey Jones in the era of pioneering western railroads. [1] Casey Jones also aired on both the BBC and ITV in the United Kingdom and on the Seven Network in Australia.
Roger Awsumb (July 10, 1928 – July 15, 2002) was an American television show host and radio broadcaster in Minneapolis–Saint Paul and Brainerd, Minnesota. [1] He is most known for his lead role in the children's television show he created, Lunch With Casey, that aired on the Twin Cities area channel 11 from 1954 until 1973. [2]
For 19 years, Roger Awsumb played Casey Jones on WTCN's Lunch with Casey. [21] By 1954, channel 11 was offering some programming from the DuMont Television Network, [30] though the network's shows moved to new station KEYD-TV (channel 9) when it launched in January 1955. [31]
In 1950, the Disney studio produced an animated cartoon short based on Casey Jones, entitled The Brave Engineer. From 1954 until 1973, Roger Awsumb played Casey Jones on Lunch With Casey in the Minneapolis/St. Paul market on WTCN-TV. The 1956 James Bond novel Diamonds Are Forever references Casey Jones during a train chase.
