Steam and water analysis system (SWAS) [1] is a system dedicated to the analysis of steam or water. In power stations, it is usually used to analyze boiler steam and water to ensure the water used to generate electricity is clean from impurities which can cause corrosion to any metallic surface, such as in boiler and turbine.
The purpose of the Instrumentation Course is to provide the student, Power Plant Instrumentation Specialist, with skills and knowledge in the methods and techniques necessary to safely perform troubleshooting, testing, maintenance, and repair of instrumentation systems and components used on electrical power generation and distribution equipment.
An outline of key instrumentation is shown on Process Flow Diagrams (PFD) which indicate the principal equipment and the flow of fluids in the plant. Piping and Instrumentation Diagrams (P&ID) provide details of all the equipment (vessels, pumps, etc), piping and instrumentation on the plant in a symbolic and diagrammatic form.
Piping and instrumentation diagram of pump with storage tank. Symbols according to EN ISO 10628 and EN 62424. A more complex example of a P&ID. A piping and instrumentation diagram (P&ID) is defined as follows: A diagram which shows the interconnection of process equipment and the instrumentation used to control the process.
IEC 60987 Nuclear power plants – Instrumentation and control important to safety – Hardware design requirements for computer-based systems; IEC 60988 Nuclear power plants – Instrumentation important to safety – Acoustic monitoring systems for detection of loose parts: characteristics, design criteria and operational procedures
one or more system control centres, responsible for scheduling of power generation to meet customer demand, and for managing major network outages and faults. generation control centres, responsible for managing the operation of generating plants (coal-fired, natural gas, nuclear, solar, wind, etc.), and for adjusting the power generated ...
Panel boards were usually laid out in a manner that replicated the process flow in the plant. So instrumentation indicating operating units with the plant was grouped together for recognition sake and ease of problem solution. It was a simple matter to look at the entire panel board, and discern whether any section of the plant was running poorly.
