The New York Yankees are a Major League Baseball team based in The Bronx, New York.The team competes as a member club of the American League (AL) East division. Flick, Rixey, and Rice were all still living at the time the selections were announced, however Rixey died several months before the induction ceremony. [1] A formal induction ceremony was held in Cooperstown, New York, on August 5, 1963, with Commissioner of Baseball Ford Frick presiding. [2]
On February 8, 1991, the Hall of Fame formally declared that persons on baseball's ineligible list would no longer be eligible for induction into the Hall of Fame. As such, Pete Rose was ineligible for BBWAA election, but received 41 write-in votes. These votes were invalid and thrown out.
The newly-eligible players included twelve All-Stars, one of whom was not on the ballot, representing a total of 49 All-Star selections. Among the candidates were 15-time All Star Ozzie Smith , 8-time All Star Andre Dawson , 6-time All-Star Alan Trammell and 5-time All Star Tim Wallach .
