Swoop is Eastern Washington University's athletics mascot.He is modeled after an eagle, in reference to the nickname of the university's athletic teams, the Eagles.The mascot first appeared in September 1973 when the Eastern Washington State College changed the name of its athletic teams from "the Savages" to "the Eagles".
EWU has been a member of the Big Sky athletic conference since 1987; the school's mascot is Swoop and the school colors are red and white. In 2010, EWU won the NCAA Division I FCS national championship, EWU's first at the Division I level for any sport. In 1973, the student body voted to make Eastern's mascot the Eagles.
The main campus of Eastern Washington University is located in Cheney. A branch campus, known as the Riverpoint Campus is located nearby in Spokane and is shared with Washington State University. The Eastern Washington Eagles men's basketball team represents Eastern Washington University in Cheney, Washington, United States. The school's team currently competes in the Big Sky Conference, of which it has been a member since 1987.
