The mall underwent a major renovation in 1999, which included new flooring, skylights, interior finishes and site lighting. Other improvements include a domed food court with an outside dining area, a seating capacity of 350, and a children's soft play area constructed in 2002.
Parkdale Mall opened in 1973, with only three anchors: JCPenney, Joske's, and Montgomery Ward. [1] In the mid-1980s, a new wing was added, [1] along with the fourth anchor Sears. In 1987, Joske's rebranded as Dillard's. [2] In 2001, Montgomery Ward closed its doors. The store was demolished and was replaced with a new Foley's store in 2002. [3]
The mall's last expansion occurred in 1995 with the opening of a three level Dillard's at the end of the western extension. In 1997, it was sold to The Macerich Company, a company based in California. In January 2007, the mall was sold to Midwest Mall Properties, a private investor group, which retained Macerich as management company.

Higbee's was a department store founded in 1860 in Cleveland, Ohio. [1] In 1987, Higbee's was sold to the joint partnership of Dillard's department stores and Youngstown -based developer, Edward J. DeBartolo . [ 2 ]
