Northbound I-25 between Colorado Springs and Denver. Following the Santa Fe Trail from New Mexico, I-25 enters Colorado while concurrent with US 85 and US 87.It is a typical four-lane Interstate Highway, and its entire route in Colorado lies close to the east side of the Rocky Mountains.
The route was originally opened in 1882 by the Denver and Rio Grande Railroad (D&RG) to transport silver and gold ore mined from the San Juan Mountains. The line was the "San Juan" extension of the D&RG 3 ft (914 mm) narrow-gauge line from Antonito, Colorado, to Durango. The last train to operate into Durango from the east was on December 6, 1968.
The short segment between US 50 at Salida and US 24 at Buena Vista closely parallels the original U.S. Route 650, [4] which was designated in 1926, but eliminated in 1936 when US 285 was commissioned along its present extent from Sanderson to Denver, mostly replacing state-numbered highways.
State Highway 119 (SH 119) is a 63.7-mile-long (102.5 km) state highway in north central Colorado.It extends in a southwest to northeast direction, from a junction with U.S. Route 6 (US 6) in Clear Creek Canyon between Golden and Idaho Springs to a junction with Interstate 25 (I-25) east of Longmont.

It continues east to Durango, where it intersects US 550. After overlapping with US 550 south of Durango, US 160 turns east and meets US 84 at Pagosa Springs. It then goes northeast and crosses the Continental Divide at Wolf Creek Pass, the area made popular in 1975 in C.W. McCall's album Wolf Creek Pass. US 160 in La Veta Pass
