South Cotabato, [a] officially the Province of South Cotabato, is a province in the Philippines located in the Soccsksargen region in Mindanao.Its capital is Koronadal (also the regional center of Soccsksargen), and it borders Sultan Kudarat to the north and west, Sarangani to the south and northeast, and Davao del Sur to the far northeast.
When South Cotabato was created by virtue of Republic Act No. 4849 or "An Act creating the Province of South Cotabato", the Province officially functioned only after the 1967 Philippine local elections. Sergio Morales, M.D., the Province's inaugural Governor, served throughout the duration of former President Ferdinand Marcos' administration.

The province's capital from 1920 to 1967 was Cotabato City (of the same name) while Pagalungan became its capital from 1967 to 1973.
