The Woods Line is a trail that branches off the OC&E State Trail near Beatty outside of Klamath Falls and heads northward. The trail crosses over the Sprague River and next to the Sycan Shops. The trail meets Five Mile Creek after 10 miles (16 km) and runs along as its companion for 6 miles (10 km), crossing over it several times.
The Oregon, California and Eastern Railway (OC&E) was a 64-mile (103 km) rail line between Klamath Falls and Bly in the U.S. state of Oregon. [1] After 70 years of bringing logs from nearby forests to local sawmills, the former railroad right of way was converted to the OC&E Woods Line State Trail.
After 1990, the rail line passing through Pine Grove became part of a rail trail, the OC&E Woods Line State Trail, managed by the Oregon Parks and Recreation Department. One of the trailheads on the 100-mile (160 km) trail is at Pine Grove.
The OC&E Woods Line State Trail, the longest linear state park in Oregon, passes through Bly. The 100-mile (160 km) rail trail was built on the roadbeds of the former Oregon, California and Eastern Railway, which ran from Klamath Falls to Bly, and a former spur line, the Woods Line. [15]
The community was along a rail line operated jointly by Southern Pacific and Burlington Northern. Today the OC&E Woods Line State Trail, a rails to trails conversion, passes through Olene. [11] Originally built by the Oregon, California and Eastern Railway, the railroad line reached Olene in 1918. [9]
