Ketchikan (/ ˈ k ɛ tʃ ɪ k æ n / KETCH-ih-kan; [4] Tlingit: Kichx̱áan) is a city in and the borough seat of the Ketchikan Gateway Borough on Revillagigedo Island of Alaska. [5] [6] It is the state's southeasternmost major settlement.

Alaska's portion of the Inside Passage extends 500 miles (800 km) from north to south and 100 miles (160 km) from east to west. The area encompasses 1,000 islands and thousands of coves and bays. While the Alexander Archipelago in Alaska provides some protection from the Pacific Ocean weather, much of the area experiences strong semi-diurnal tides.

Ketchikan Gateway Borough is a borough located in the U.S. state of Alaska. As of the 2020 census its population was 13,948, up from 13,477 in 2010. [2] The borough seat is Ketchikan. [3] The borough is the second most populous borough in Southeast Alaska, the first being Juneau Borough.
