This is a list of law enforcement agencies in the state of Montana.. According to the US Bureau of Justice Statistics' 2008 Census of State and Local Law Enforcement Agencies, the state had 119 law enforcement agencies employing 3,229 [1] sworn police officers, about 201 for each 100,000 residents.
The Montana Legislature established Sheridan County in 1913 from portions of Dawson and Valley Counties. It was named for American Civil War General Philip Sheridan. [3] In the 1920s and 1930s the county was a hotbed of communist organizing. The CPUSA managed to elect several town and county officials.

Sheridan is a town in Madison County, Montana, United States named after the Civil War general Philip Sheridan. The population was 694 at the 2020 census . [ 3 ] Sheridan is known as the "heart of the Ruby Valley."
