Pagadian, officially the City of Pagadian (Cebuano: Dakbayan sa Pagadian; Subanen: Gembagel G'benwa Pagadian; Maguindanaon: Kuta nu Pagadian, كوت نو ڤڬديان; Iranun: Bandar a Pagadian, بندر ا ڤاڬاديان; Chavacano: Ciudad de Pagadian; Filipino: Lungsod ng Pagadian), is a component city and the capital of the province of Zamboanga del Sur, Philippines.
Even after receiving its own city charter on June 21, 1969, Pagadian remained part of the representation of the Province of Zamboanga del Sur by virtue of Section 108 of Republic Act No. 5478. [2] Zamboanga del Sur was represented in the Interim Batasang Pambansa as part of Region IX from 1978 to 1984.

Medellin was formerly part of Daanbantayan. As a town, it started with only 3 barangays, namely; Kawit and Buenavista on the west coast, and Tindog on the east coast. Kawit, being the biggest and most progressive barangay at that time, became the first seat of government. Due to its deep shore water, the area was prone to pirates.

Kauswagan was organized into a municipality through President Manuel Roxas's Executive Order No. 126, s. 1948 which separated the barrio of Kauswagan and the sitios of Linamon, Magoong, Purakan, Rebukon, Samburun, Lapayan, Takub and Kawit from the then municipality of Iligan.
