Richardson Independent School District (RISD or Richardson ISD) is an independent school district in northern Dallas County, Texas, based in Richardson.The 46-square-mile (120 km 2) district serves the Dallas County portions of Richardson; [a] the Lake Highlands, Northwood Hills, and Prestonwood neighborhoods of Dallas; and small portions of Garland.

In July 2024, the ACLU of Texas sent Winters Independent School District a letter, alleging that the district's 2023-2024 dress and grooming code appeared to violate the Texas CROWN Act, a state law which prohibits racial discrimination based on hair texture or styles, and asking the district to revise its policies for the 2024-2025 school year.

In 1947, the communities of South Bosque consolidated their schools. The district was midway between Hewitt and South Bosque. In 1972, Speegleville ISD merged with Midway ISD. After four years of growth, the "new" high school was opened in 1976. In 2003, another "new" high school opened.
There are also signs for future high schools on the south side of Parvin Road (between Dallas Parkway and County Road 1381), and the north side of County Road 123 (between Custer Road and Lake Forest Drive in northwest McKinney), which would bring the total to 6 high schools. PISD has planned to have 6-8 comprehensive 5A high schools at build-out.
