The Herbert Wertheim College of Engineering is the largest professional school, the second largest college, and one of the top three research units at the University of Florida. The college was founded in 1910, and in 2015 was named in honor of Herbert Wertheim – a serial inventor, philanthropist and UF Distinguished Alumnus.
Abernathy began as a professor at the University of Florida in 1993. From 2004 and 2009, she worked as an associate dean for the college. In 2009, she was named the Dean of the Herbert Wertheim College of Engineering. [1] In 2015, the college received $50 million from its namesake, Herbert Wertheim. It was the largest cash gift in UF history. [3]
