Producer-director-writer William Forest Crouch had been making Soundies—three-minute movie musicals for coin-operated "movie jukeboxes". His 20-minute musical made for theaters, Caldonia (1945), starred Louis Jordan, and was so successful that Crouch signed Jordan for three feature films.
Similar to Soundies, Scopitones are short musical films designed to be played on a specially designed coin-operated jukebox, but with new technical improvements - color and high-fidelity sound. Scopitones were printed on color 16mm film with magnetic sound, instead of Soundies' black-and-white film with optical sound.

In 1940, the Mills company introduced Soundies, short 16mm musical films played in a coin-operated movie jukebox, its projection and sound mechanism made by RCA. Wartime restrictions curtailed manufacturing of the jukeboxes, but the Mills company continued to produce and distribute new films for them into 1947.
I lived in NYC for three years and visited many of the spots featured in "Home Alone 2." Scenes from the 1992 movie look similar to NYC today. Some places, though, closed or never existed.
