Chief Buffalo Horn, one of Howard's scouts, obtained a view of their camp. On August 18, the Nez Perce camped at Camas Meadows fifteen miles (24 km) to Howard's east in a meadow bisected by Spring and Camas creeks. The Nez Perce name for their camp was Kamisnim Takin, meaning "camas meadows". [13] Howard marched to Camas Meadows on August 19.
Most of the camp was located in between Camas Creek and Spring Creek, although the tent of General Oliver O. Howard was located on a rise to the east of Spring Creek. [ 3 ] The siege site is located further to the northeast, at about 44°24′45″N 111°47′41″W / 44.41250°N 111.79472°W / 44.41250; -111.
The Pacific and Idaho Northern Railroad Depot is a building in the western United States, at New Meadows, Idaho, and is listed on the National Register of Historic Places.
