Petrofina was a Belgian oil company. It merged with Total in 1999 to form TotalFina , which after subsequent mergers has changed its name back to Total. In the United States, Fina's former refining and marketing operations are now owned by Delek US .

In 1998, FINA was merged with its parent company of Petrofina SA, then Petrofina merged with Total S.A. in 1999. After the acquisition of Elf Acquitaine, the chemicals division of the company was named ATOFINA Petrochemicals Inc. [citation needed] On 1 October 2004, the name was changed to Total Petrochemicals USA, Inc. [2]
The Montreal refinery was originally commissioned by Petrofina on September 15, 1955, with a throughput of 20,000 bpd. Montreal had long been Canada's refining center with 8 refineries and large chemical plants in operation at its peak.
When it was founded, it was called the Petrofina Montreal Refinery. This refinery has the same refining capacity as the Shell Canada refinery. It was founded in 1955 inside the square formed by Sherbooke East, Saint-Jean Baptiste, Marien and the Highway 40. It's the third refinery of this refining centre.

In 1922, the Vega refinery came into the possession of Concordia after the company was merged with the Vega and Creditul Petrolifer under the Franco-Belgian Petrofina trust led by Léon Wenger. During the interwar period , Vega was ranked second among the Romanian refineries, after Astra Română.
