The Maldives is located south of India's Lakshadweep islands, and about seven hundred kilometres (435 mi) south-west of Sri Lanka. The twenty-six atolls of Maldives' encompass a territory featuring 1,192 islets , two hundred and fifty islands of which are inhabited.
Fulidhoo is one of the islands of the Vaavu Atoll. Located in the Laccadive Sea, the island is 55.7 km (35 mi; 30 nmi) south of the country's capital, Malé. Gan Island was formerly inhabited, but its inhabitants moved to neighboring islands after a severe epidemic at the end of the 18th century.
