Haskell County is a county located in the U.S. state of Texas. As of the 2020 census, its population was 5,416. [1] The county seat is Haskell. [2] The county was created in 1858 and later organized in 1885. [3] It is named for Charles Ready Haskell, who was killed in the Goliad massacre.

In 2011, press reports indicated Haskell County had a population of 5,899, down from about 14,000 in 1950. [2] It is the hometown of 14th United States Secretary of Energy, former Governor of Texas and two time U.S. presidential candidate Rick Perry, who served as Texas's 47th governor and the longest-serving governor in Texas history.
Rule is in western Haskell County at the intersection of U.S. Route 380 and Texas State Highway 6.US 380 leads east 9 miles (14 km) to Haskell, the county seat, and west 11 miles (18 km) to Old Glory, while Highway 6 leads north 9 miles (14 km) to Rochester and south 19 miles (31 km) to Stamford.

The high school was completed in 1938, and had served in that capacity until May 2005. Due to rapidly declining enrollment, [citation needed] the district, now named Rochester-County Line Independent School District, merged with Haskell CISD on June 1, 2005.
