Chapter 7 of Title 11 U.S. Code is the bankruptcy code that governs the process of liquidation under the bankruptcy laws of the U.S. In contrast to bankruptcy under Chapter 11 and Chapter 13, which govern the process of reorganization of a debtor, Chapter 7 bankruptcy is the most common form of bankruptcy in the U.S. [1]
In a chapter 7 liquidation proceeding, a trustee must assume or reject the executory contracts that involve an ordinary business purchase or sale of a security within 30 days of the date of order for relief. If the trustee does not take action, within those 30 days, the contract is by default rejected.

Consumers usually file chapter 7 or chapter 13. Chapter 11 filings by individuals are allowed, but are rare.
