M-71 is a state trunkline highway in the Lower Peninsula of the US state of Michigan.It serves as a connector between M-21 in Owosso to Interstate 69 (I-69) near Durand.The highway runs along a rail line in a northwest-to-southeast direction in rural Shiawassee County connecting a few small towns along its path.
M-13 starts at its junction with I-69 near the village of Lennon along the Genesee–Shiawassee county line. The highway follows County Line Road north into the village where it follows Sheridan Avenue through town, [3] [4] including a crossing of the Huron and Eastern Railway [5] North of Lennon, the trunkline intersects M-21 and continues along the county line through fields.

M-21 passes into the community of Ovid and over the county line into Shiawassee County. Continuing east through the county, the highway enters Owosso. The trunkline follows Main Street into downtown and crosses the Shiawassee River between junctions with M-52 and M-71 in Owosso. M-21 runs roughly parallel to the river out into the country side.
