The Namib Desert horse (Afrikaans: Namib Woestyn Perd) is a feral horse found in the Namib Desert of Namibia.It is one of the two feral herd of horses ( the other being the Kundudo horses from Ethiopia) residing in Africa, with a population ranging between 90 and 150.
What are said to be descendants of their horses can be seen today roaming free and wild as Namib Desert Horses along the roadside and in the restricted diamond areas, although whether this is the true origin of these herds, is not accurately known. [3] The property is currently under the management of Namibia Wildlife Resorts.
The harsh environment and barren plains around Garub [3] became the habitat of the desert horses of the Namib - descendants from German cavalry horses and adapted to the conditions and dry climate of the desert.
