WKC Stahl- und Metallwarenfabrik ("WKC Steel and Metalwork Factory"), formerly Weyersberg, Kirschbaum & Cie., is a German sword manufacturing company located in Solingen, North Rhine-Westphalia. The company was founded in 1883 with the merger of two major Solingen sword-making companies, Weyersberg and Kirschbaum.
The curved, Gothic-hilted 1822 and 1845 pattern infantry swords, although elegant, had been criticised by some as fighting swords [by whom?]. In common with British cavalry swords of the era, they were cut-and-thrust swords. In 1892, a new, straight, blade was introduced, mated to the existing Gothic hilt.
Solingen is called the "City of Blades", and has long been renowned for the manufacturing of fine swords, knives, scissors and razors made by firms such as WKC, DOVO, Wüsthof, Zwilling J. A.
