S. M. Nayagam, a Sri-Lankan Tamil of Indian origin, was the first producer of a Sinhala film Kadawunu Poronduwa (roughly translated as "Broken Promise"), which was produced in 1947. Since production and technical facilities were unavailable in Sri Lanka at the time all production work was completed in Madurai, South India.

Bimba Devi alias Yashodhara (බිම්බා දේවී හෙවත් යශෝධරා) is a 2018 Sri Lankan Sinhala language epic, biographical drama film written and directed by professor Sunil Ariyaratne. [2] This historical biographical film depicts the life of princess Yashodhara, the wife of Prince Siddhartha.
The movie was remade in Sinhala in 2019 also titled U Turn - thereby becoming the second Kannada movie to be remade in Sinhala after Anuraga Aralithu. [4] The Filipino remake with the same name was released on pay-to-view basis on 30 October 2020. [5] [6] [7] With that, U Turn became the first Indian movie to be remade in Filipino. [8] [9]
Both the Sinhalese and English language versions of Nim Him Sewwa have been covered by many artists over the years. [2] [3] It stars Amila Karunanayake and Senali Fonseka in lead roles along with Sriyantha Mendis, Darshan Dharmaraj, and Nilmini Kottegoda in supporting roles.
Kadawunu Poronduwa was produced by S. M. Nayagam, [1] a pioneer of Sinhala film industry and an Indian citizen. He had to ferry the entire cast to Madurai India for filming and production. It began as a successful play for dramatist B. A. W. Jayamanne. In 1947 he filmed and processed the movie in South India. [2]
