Forest Lake is an unincorporated community and census-designated place (CDP) in Ela Township of Lake County, Illinois, United States. It is about 35 miles (56 km) northwest of downtown Chicago. Per the 2020 census, the population was 1,784. [2] The community was founded in 1935 as a vacation community for Chicago residents.
The area, like much of northern Illinois, was inhabited by the Powtawatomi tribe until 1836, when they were removed by the government. [2] One of the very first Irish settlers in the area was Michael Yore, [3] who built a log cabin near to the intersection of Telegraph and Old Mill Roads today in Lake Forest. [1]

The Mildred and Abel Fagen House is a historic house at 1711 Devonshire Lane in Lake Forest, Illinois.Its address at the time of its construction was 1581 Old Mill Road, but the surrounding acreage was eventually sold to developer Arthur Rubloff, who added a number of new streets to service the many additional homes that were built on the former Fagen property.
