Gardnerville is an unincorporated town [4] in Douglas County, Nevada, adjacent to the county seat of Minden. The population was 6,211 at the 2020 census. [3] U.S. Route 395 runs through the center of Gardnerville. State Route 207, known as Kingsbury Grade, connects Gardnerville to Stateline and U.S. Route 50.
The present-day highway first appears on official state maps in 1937. At that time, the road was paved and carried the State Route 56 designation. [3] The routing appears to have remained unchanged since that time. Nevada began renumbering its state highways on July 1, 1976. In that process, SR 56 was re-designated as State Route 756. [4]
Southbound US 395 in Douglas County, about 3 miles (4.8 km) south of the I-580/US 50 intersection in Carson City. US 395 enters Nevada in Topaz Lake as a two-lane highway and gradually winds its way to Carson Valley where it becomes the principal thoroughfare for the Gardnerville–Minden area.

During the late 1970s and early 1980s the state of Nevada renumbered most state routes. The 1978 edition of the Nevada Highways map was the first to use both the 3 and 208 designations, [5] with the 1982 edition the first to use only the 208 designation. [6]
The highway travels northwest along the Carson River through the Washoe Tribe's Dresslerville Colony and the adjacent towns of Gardnerville and Minden. At a junction with State Route 88 in Minden, US 395 turns due north and becomes a four-lane divided highway as it approaches Carson City , the state's capital city.
